Wine Cork Purchasing ~~ PLANS ~~ as of December 26, 2009

WINE CORK PURCHASING -
In order to  make the Wine Cork Recycling program a success, there must be sales of a finished product - pulling the corks through the system by market demand. This demand should cause a need to replenish the supply of corks at a faster rate than they have come in via contributions from environmentally conscience individuals and businesses. Thus, a payment system is under development to assure an adequate supply of wine cork feed stock.
WHY POST-CONSUMER -
The real value in post-consumer recycled materials is that it changes the most behaviors. Post-industrial and pre-consumer recycling only change a few behaviors and business pressures ultimately should reduce the amount of this waste. Keeping with the goal of affecting the most behaviors, Yemm & Hart seeks post-consumer recycled wine cork stoppers from individuals, groups and businesses.
RULES for SELLING WINE CORKS TO YEMM & HART -
1. Anyone can send corks prepaid - shipper pays freight.
2. Only registered suppliers will be paid.
3. Only cork pre-authorized to ship will be paid for.
4. Payment will be made according to the Cork Payment Rates.
5. Registered suppliers must send cork freight prepaid.
6. The minimum size shipment for payment is 10 lbs of pure cork.
7. The maximum size package is 60 lbs (more and the package could burst).
8. Good packing is the shipper's responsibility.
9. Non-cork package contents will be valued at 4x the pay rate of pure cork.
10. The value of non-cork will be deducted from the value of pure cork.
11. Rules and prices may change at any time and without notice.
RECOMMENDATIONS -
At this time Yemm & Hart has found that UPS Ground offers the least expensive shipping but don't overlook the US Postal System. As with any freight, the larger the volume shipped at any one time results in the least shipping cost per Lb. For example, a 60 Lb package will generally cost less to ship per Lb than 2 - 30 Lb packages.
CAUTION: If collecting and storing corks is contemplated, be aware that 200 and 275 (cardboard test) boxes, when stacked on top of with boxes full of corks, will bulge out and could burst. For temporary storage of 300 Lbs or more, Yemm & Hart recommends using a Gaylord container on a pallet.
CORK PAYMENT RATES -

To be determined

CORK PAYMENT RATE -
The payment rate that Yemm & Hart establishes will be based upon the market scrap rate for cork. This amount should yield the supplier of corks a net profit after paying for the sending/shipping/freight. This arrangement encourages the supplier to use the least expensive and most efficient shipping method. Suppliers may use any service they choose. The freight must be paid for by the supplier to the carrier. Yemm & Hart will receive, inspect, weigh and record the corks sent and then issue payment to the registered supplier within 30 days. Suppliers of non-authorized or COD shipments of cork will not be paid. Yemm & Hart can arrange the shipping for a fee that will be  deducted from the cork payment.

WHAT REGISTRATION MEANS -
To protect against an oversupply of wine corks, Yemm & Hart has developed the registration list below for all individuals, groups and business that want to recycle post-consumer wine cork stoppers and get paid for doing it. Suppliers register by contacting Yemm & Hart and asking to be registered. The registry date is recorded and when Yemm & Hart needs to purchase cork, the list is consulted. The registered supplier below the XX in the Progress column will be contacted. Yemm & Hart intends to develop a buyer-seller relationship with each registered supplier in order to accommodate the timing needs for both parties. This method is Yemm & Hart's attempt to insure fairness to all.
