Origins Additional Information

New Numbering System: As the Origins panel product becomes more developed it also becomes more complex -

3 digit color numbers beginning with:
1 = Solid color Flakes
2 = Solid color Pellets
3 = Natural color Pellets or Flakes (no color pigment has been added by Yemm & Hart)
4 = Patterns from Pellets
5 = Patterns from 1/4" minus size Flakes
6 = Patterns from 1/8" minus size Flakes

This transition will take time to complete. For once the website and literature is ahead of the samples. Samples will continue to be sent out with the old number system 100s and 500s until the current supply is exhausted. It will require new labels and in cases new material formulations for samples.

Origins may seem like a new material; however, it is simply 100% polyethylene HDPE sheet that has been available for years. What is special about Origins is a combination of factors: 100% post-consumer resins, visible multiple colors and the industry’s highest quality for compression molded sheets. Installers and fabricators of polyethylene will feel at home with it, while wood and metal workers already possess the tools and skill required to work Origins successfully. See Installation & Fabrication to learn more about fabricating Origins in numerous ways.

Maintenance: Frankly, there is no maintenance necessary for Origins, one of its many benefits. Simply wipe down the surface with a damp cloth with or without mild detergent. Rubbing a spoon along (not across) a scratch can often heal a minor scratch. Additional repair information can be found in the Installation & Fabrication section.

Handling: When you receive your new Origins decorative recycled plastic panels, there are a few precautions you will want to take to insure your project retains the highest quality:

  1. Remember that Origins is polyethylene and not a harder thermoset resin as used in conventional plastic laminates and solid surfacing materials.
  2. Always protect both surfaces from abrasions of any kind when handling Origins.
  3. Give Origins the respect you would any expensive material.
  4. Tape, paper, chipboard and cardboard are all readily available materials that can be used to protect the surfaces while you handle and fabricate the material.
  5. Origins is shipped interleaved with protective material to insure it arrives in prime condition.

Installation History: When considering compression molded recycled polyethylene, remember that only panels specifically advertised and sold as Origins with a 500 series color number are authentic. Owners of pre-Origins panels are eligible for an upgrade.

Feedback: We appreciate hearing, reading and seeing photographs of your use of Origins. If we have an opportunity to publish your information, we will seek your approval.
